Tools, Technologies, and Processes at the Intersection of Data Governance and
MDM / CDI / EDM / EIM / Integration

It's really hard to draw a line separating Data Governance from Master Data Management (MDM), Customer Data Integration (CDI), Enterprise Data Management (EDM), or Enterprise Information Management (EIM). Likewise, the need for better Data Integration capabilities is a driving factor in many Data Governance programs.

You can almost say there's a "chicken-and-the-egg" relationship between Data Governance and any of these disciplines. Your governance program may very well set policies and priorities for your organization's MDM effort, for example. Then, having addressed high-level concerns, governance would leave much of the hands-on-keyboard data work to the MDM program.

Part of that work, however, will undoubtedly include establishing detailed rules for data, enforcing those rules, and baking controls into systems and workflows - work that could be described as governance.

And so, the best MDM / CDI / EDM / EIM / Integration tools include functionality to address traditional Data Governance and Stewardship concerns.
